Salary: PAYE: £20.31 per hour | Umbrella: £26.00 per hour
Are you an experienced Building Control Surveyor looking for a senior role within a forward-thinking local authority?
Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a Senior Building Control Surveyor to join the Planning team within the Regeneration & Economic Development Service Area for a 24-week temporary assignment.This is an excellent opportunity to take a lead role in shaping safe, compliant, and sustainable developments—supporting major commercial and industrial projects across the region.
What You’ll Do:
- Act as the senior officer within the Building Control Section, leading and supporting the delivery of high-quality building control services.
- Oversee, allocate, and review the work of Building Control Surveyors, ensuring compliance with building regulations and council policy.
- Provide technical expertise on major developments, including complex commercial and industrial projects requiring fire engineering design solutions.
- Respond to dangerous structures both during and outside of standard working hours, ensuring public safety at all times.
- Promote Local Authority Building Control through partnerships, marketing initiatives, and annual Building Excellence Awards.
- Support and deputise for the Building Control Manager when required.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives, ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems, and LABC continuous improvement strategies.
- Manage stakeholder relationships with developers, architects, and partner agencies to encourage a customer-focused, solutions-driven approach.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and welfare obligations, promoting best practice across the service.
What We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable post-qualification experience in building control and enforcement work.
- Competency Validation (minimum Class 2).
- Full membership or working towards membership of RICS, MCABE, M.B.Eng, or equivalent professional body.
- Recognised qualification in Building Control/Surveying (e.g., ONC, HNC, Degree).
- Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory obligations, and ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems.
- Proven ability to lead, train, and mentor staff.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage complex cases and represent the Council professionally.
- IT literate, with experience using GIS and database systems.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to work out of hours where necessary.

- Experience managing or supporting large commercial or industrial projects
- Knowledge of fire safety engineering and complex building design solutions
