About the Role:
Network Recruitment Wales is proud to offer an impactful opportunity for a dedicated Social Worker to join the Children Looked After Team in Merthyr Tydfil for a 12-week temporary role starting 30 June 2025. Based primarily at the Civic Centre with the option to work from home one day per week, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding and supporting children and young people, helping them achieve personal well-being outcomes. Working collaboratively with families and partner agencies, you’ll deliver high-quality social work services in line with the Children Act 1989 and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct proportionate assessments and co-produce Care and Support Plans to meet the needs of children and families, ensuring personal well-being outcomes are achieved.
  • Manage a caseload of Children Looked After and children on the Child Protection Register, undertaking statutory visits and maintaining relationships with families and carers.
  • Pursue Section 47 enquiries (Children Act 1989) regarding allegations of child abuse and neglect, adhering to Cwm Taf Safeguarding and All Wales Child Protection procedures.
  • Prepare court reports and engage in legal proceedings to secure children’s permanence, including applications related to contact or revocation.
  • Coordinate and chair meetings, prepare for CLA reviews, and escalate safeguarding concerns to the Team Manager as needed.
  • Undertake duty responsibilities on a rota basis and manage day-to-day caseload organisation in line with departmental policies.
  • Maintain accurate case records on the social services database and produce timely reports.
  • Build professional inter-agency networks to safeguard and promote children’s safety and well-being.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and staff briefings, contributing to service development.
  • Comply with employee procedures and adhere to Social Care Wales Codes of Practice.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Qualifications: Degree (or equivalent) in Social Work and current registration with Social Care Wales.
  • Experience: Proven experience working with vulnerable families and collaborating with colleagues and the public to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and recording skills, with the ability to conduct or learn to conduct proportionate assessments and outcome-focused Care and Support Plans (Part 3/4 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014). Proficiency in or ability to learn social services information management systems.
  • Attributes: Creative, innovative, and flexible approach to problem-solving, with a commitment to working honestly and professionally. Ability to engage positively with children, families, and professionals to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of child development and safeguarding procedures.
  • Licence: Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car.
  • Desirable: Commitment to continuous professional development, attending regular supervision, and staying informed of best practices.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Provide a Confidentiality Agreement and Criminal Convictions Declaration.
  • Submit a CV with 3 years of references/work history.
  • Hold current Social Care Wales registration.
  • Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to working with vulnerable children.
