Are you a dedicated Social Care Qualified professional with expertise in safeguarding children? NRW People is excited to offer a temporary Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) role with Pembrokeshire County Council, based at County Hall in Haverfordwest. Starting 29 September 2025, this 12-week position provides long-term sickness cover, offering a chance to enhance outcomes for looked after and protected children in a supportive Welsh community.

What You’ll Do:
  • Deliver the statutory reviewing function for young people looked after by the Local Authority, ensuring high-quality, timely care plans with the child’s voice at the centre.
  • Chair multi-agency child protection conferences, safeguarding children in high-risk situations and addressing their needs effectively.
  • Contribute to Pembrokeshire’s prevention-focused services, supporting children to remain with their families where safe and appropriate.
  • Utilise a hybrid working model, blending face-to-face and Microsoft Teams meetings to provide flexible support to families.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with Social Care Wales standards and safeguarding protocols.
What We’re Looking For:
  • A qualified Social Worker with experience in child protection and looked-after children reviews.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, with a commitment to quality assurance and child-centred practice.
  • Ability to work full-time (37 hours) and adapt to a hybrid working environment.
  • Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • 5 years of references/work history.
  • Current Social Care Wales Registration.
  • DBS Summary Form (to be submitted with application).
  • Health Declaration/Questionnaire (desirable attribute).
Why Join Us?
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support Pembrokeshire’s children’s services during a period of long-term sickness cover, with competitive pay and manageable caseloads due to the county’s below-average looked-after population. You’ll work in a flexible, hybrid team, contributing to a high standard of care.
