Job Description

SEN Graduate Learning Mentor

Could you be the calm, consistent support pupils with additional needs rely on each day? Are you looking for meaningful primary SEN experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

*** SEN Graduate Learning Mentor
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** Primary school based in Erdington
*** 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism, ADHD, EBD and complex needs

The Role:
Work closely with pupils who need extra support to access school confidently and consistently. You will provide 1:1 and small group support, help pupils follow routines, regulate behaviour, stay engaged in learning, and build confidence throughout the school day, while feeding back clearly to teachers and the SENCO. The SEND Code of Practice remains the statutory guidance schools follow for identifying need, putting support in place, and reviewing impact, while SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs.

The Candidate:
You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want practical school-based experience, you can stay composed in a busy primary setting, and you are interested in how structured support helps pupils with Autism, ADHD, EBD, and complex needs feel secure and make progress. This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into educational or clinical psychology.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in a creative subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This primary school based in Erdington offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a setting where structure, inclusion, and purposeful support matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, practical intervention, and the support strategies schools use to help pupils with a wide range of additional needs access learning more successfully. GOV.UK’s eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks was updated on 20 January 2026 and remains the key guidance for roles working with children.
