Job Description

Job Title: Tribunal Officer
Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid Working Available)
Rate: £390 per day (Umbrella)
Contract Type: Interim / Full-Time
Duration: 3–6 months (with possible extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Are you an experienced SEND professional with a strong understanding of the SEND Tribunal process? Hertfordshire is seeking a dedicated Tribunal Officer to manage and coordinate responses to appeals made to the SEND Tribunal, ensuring statutory compliance and high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of SENDIST (Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal) appeals from registration to hearing.
  • Draft high-quality tribunal responses and compile all supporting documentation and evidence.
  • Liaise with parents, legal representatives, schools, health and social care colleagues, and educational psychologists to gather required information.
  • Represent the local authority in hearings, or support legal representatives and witnesses.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all tribunal deadlines are met.
  • Work collaboratively across teams to support the continuous improvement of statutory SEND processes.
Essential Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and tribunal processes.
  • Previous experience managing SEND appeals and working with legal documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to undergo a check).
Desirable:
  • Previous experience in a local authority SEND team.
  • Legal or paralegal background in education law.
