Job Description
We are looking for product-focused, results-oriented people who thrive in a collaborative, team-focused culture. You will work closely with product owners, data operations professionals, data analysts, product managers, business stakeholders, and your team, to help define, implement, and ship significant, innovative improvements to our GIS platform and products.
We are seeking a GIS Release Engineer to oversee the deployment and release management of GIS applications and solutions within Thames Water. The GIS Release Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the release processes, ensuring that GIS updates and new features are delivered efficiently with minimal disruption to business operations.
What you’ll do as a GIS Release Engineer
Release Planning & Coordination:
- Develop and manage GIS release schedules in collaboration with GIS Developers, GIS Architects, and business stakeholders.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure the timely and smooth deployment of GIS solutions.
- Ensure adherence to release management processes and best practices.
Change & Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with GIS releases.
- Work with stakeholders to assess the impact of GIS releases and manage changes effectively.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Quality Assurance & Deployment:
- Conduct release testing and validation to ensure quality and reliability.
- Implement automation tools and processes to enhance release efficiency.
- Monitor GIS deployments and address any post-release issues.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with IT, GIS Developers, and support teams to streamline release processes.
- Establish and maintain documentation for release management procedures.
- Continuously improve release workflows to enhance operational efficiency.
Base location – Hybrid – Clearwater Court, Reading.
Working pattern – 36 hours, Monday to Friday.
What you should bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in release management or software deployment within a GIS environment.
- Experience with version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment tools.
- Strong understanding of GIS technologies such as Esri ArcGIS, spatial databases, and cloud-based GIS solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
