Job Description

Operational Technology (OT) refers to the digital assets that are at the heart of Thames Water’s operations, providing the essential services for our customers, community, and the environment we serve 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Operational Technology systems are deployed throughout Thames Water’s geographical region, enabling the remote monitoring, control, and data acquisition of thousands of water and wastewater collection, treatment and distribution assets, gathering data insight from over 2.1 million data points.  

The demand for Operational Technology solutions across the Water Utility industry is increasing significantly, and it is recognised that OT is critical in enabling us to achieve our strategic goals (including reducing leakage and pollution). We aim to embrace and adopt new technologies to drive a digital transformation so we can exceed our customers’ expectations.

What you’ll be doing as an OT Scada Development Engineer
  • Supporting OT teams with expert support, replicating faults and working with suppliers on complex issues and faults.
  • Test updates and develop new architectures and apply new protocols, packaging up solutions for deployment across Thames Water.

  • Updates Identify issues & provide solutions to generate internal projects.
  • Number of incidents and outage time for SCADA assets and systems.
  • Lead the development of the OT SCADA Object Template Libraries to ensure they incorporate the features required to support operational control and monitoring requirements.
  • Manage and maintain the OT SCADA Object Template code Libraries.
  • Validate all applications, windows updates, security patches and anti-virus, including other system tools, to enable safe and efficient deployment to operational systems.
  • Liaise with operational stakeholders, System Integrators and SCADA vendors to assist with technical support, quality and performance management.

Base location – Hybrid Hampton Coal Wharf TW12 2ES (will be travelling to all sites across the Thames Valley area)

Requirements for the role – MUST have a UK valid driving licence

What you should bring to the role
  • Extensive direct experience of technical SCADA programming, template development, system installation and maintenance.
  • Experience in software engineering and programming, including Microsoft.NET, C# and other similar programming languages, is essential.
  • Technical report writing is essential.
  • Proven experience in programming and maintaining SCADA systems.
  • OT Systems and Architecture.
  • Supporting and maintaining relational database systems including platforms such as Oracle, PI, Wonderware Historian, ClearSCADA, and SQL.
  • A good knowledge of IP communications, LAN, WAN, VPN and mobile communications.
