Job Description

Job Title: Passenger Assistant
Pay: £14.36ph
Duration: Ongoing - term time only (with school holidays, inset days, and bank holidays off)
Hours: Zero hours contract, based on route (1-2.5 hours morning and afternoon)
Location: Hawkes Point (CV34 6LX), Rugby (CV22 7DL), Nuneaton (CV11 6RP)
Start Date: 18th August 2025 (training dates in August are mandatory)

What does the job entail?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for caring and reliable individuals to join Warwickshire County Council's Transport Delivery Team. They are trialling a new minibus fleet to provide home-to-school transport across several locations. As a Passenger Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and comfort of children during their school journeys, supporting both the driver and the passengers.

You will achieve this by:
  • Supervising and assisting students during boarding, transit, and disembarking
  • Safely securing wheelchairs and using restraint systems where necessary
  • Providing support and reassurance to young and vulnerable passengers
  • Communicating effectively with drivers, parents, and school staff
  • Managing any incidents professionally, ensuring passenger safety at all times
  • Participating fully in training and route familiarisation sessions

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
  • Commitment to working all term days for both morning and afternoon school runs
  • Availability for mandatory training from 18th-22nd August and 26th-29th August
  • A caring, supportive, and patient attitude towards young people, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Reliability, flexibility, and strong teamwork skills
  • A safety-first approach to working with children and vulnerable passengers
  • No prior experience needed - full training provided
