Job Description

Job Title: Shipping & Packing Operative
Location: Avonmouth

We’re looking for an experienced and dependable Shipping & Packing Operative to join our client based in Avonmouth, a company specialising in the manufacture of industrial accessories. This is a hands-on position, ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship. You’ll be working closely with and supporting the Packing Team Leader to ensure smooth and efficient operations. You'll play a key role in preparing goods for safe and secure transport across the UK.

Salary & Benefits:
  • £28,000 - £31,500 per annum DOE
  • Overtime opportunities available (Saturdays 1.5x, Sundays 2x, Bank Holidays 3x)
  • Monday–Friday: 08:00–16:30

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Build and brace cases according to detailed specs
  • Pack goods to withstand all handling and transit conditions
  • Use strapping, wrapping, foam, and foil to secure items
  • Secure machines and goods using custom brackets and fixings
  • Apply shock and tilt indicators, weight markings, and handling guides
  • Ensure all timber used is marked and compliant with regulations
  • Maintain a tidy and efficient packing area
  • Assist with machinery movements and participate in training
  • Comply with airline security regulations and safety standards
  • Report tool, equipment, or machinery defects promptly 

The Right Candidate:
  • Previous experience in export packing and case making
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools such as saws and nail guns (essential)
  • Valid training certifications for saw and nail gun use (essential)
  • Experience using a Counterbalance Forklift – a valid licence is desirable
  • Air Cargo Security training (minimum COS level) is desirable
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organised
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Positive, proactive attitude with good time management skills
  • Willing to travel and work unsociable hours when required
