Take Ownership of Mechanical Design on Diverse Projects

An established and growing MEP consultancy on the South Coast is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly, technically focused team in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with a few years of consultancy experience to step into greater project ownership while being supported by senior mentors and a structured career development path.
You’ll work across healthcare, education, commercial, and research sectors, contributing to technically sound, sustainable building services solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical building services designs including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic water systems
  • Produce calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings using design software
  • Coordinate designs with internal electrical, sustainability, and BIM teams for fully integrated MEP solutions
  • Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon strategies across mechanical systems
  • Attend client and design team meetings and actively contribute to technical discussions
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to gather technical data
  • Ensure designs meet UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and client requirements
  • Support and mentor junior staff while collaborating with senior engineers on project delivery

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
  • 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical design within a building services consultancy
  • Proficient in mechanical design software (Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plantroom layouts, pipework, ductwork, and energy efficiency principles
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and CIBSE best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive, organised, and detail-focused approach
  • Ambitious and motivated to develop professionally – working towards chartership supported
