Job Description

Role; Materials Buyer
Location: Knowsley, Liverpool
Salary: Up to £35,000 DOE
Contract; Permanent
Hours: Mon-Thu 08.00-16.30, Fri 08.00-13.00, 37 hours.

The Role
The Materials Buyer will be a hands-on role, responsible for the procurement of all direct and indirect manufacturing materials, ensuring stock accuracy and availability. Reporting to the Purchasing and Materials Manager, this role will be vital in supporting manufacturing operations and driving continuous improvement projects.

As the Materials Buyer, your duties will include;
  • Run MRP systems and place purchase orders as directed.
  • Expedite purchase orders to meet production timelines.
  • Update and maintain accurate purchase order due dates and records.
  • Manage all purchasing documentation, including contracts, quotes, and supplier declarations.
  • Identify new suppliers, negotiate favourable terms, and present alternatives.
  • Resolve supplier invoice queries and maintain supplier and part details in the MRP system.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels to support manufacturing output.
  • Ensure on-time, in-full delivery (OTIF) accuracy.
  • Maintain stock accuracy and the approved supplier list.
  • Create and distribute monthly supplier performance reports.
  • Ensure all QMS processes are up-to-date and correctly documented.
  • Maintain records for all purchasing activities and ensure adherence to defined processes.
  • Work closely with all departments, particularly manufacturing, engineering, stores, sales, and accounts, to ensure smooth operations.

As the Materials Buyer, you will have the following skills & experience;
  • Have will have a background in SME Manufacturing and familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in stock control and MRP systems.
  • Competence with Excel and other data management tools.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
